Dec 11, 2023 - 7:46 PM hours
Arsenal have reportedly been handed a boost in their pursuit of transfer target Martin Zubimendi. The Gunners have been tracking the Real Sociedad midfielder ahead of the January transfer window, football.london understands.

Zubimendi, who has a €60million (£52.3million) release clause, was of interest to the north Londoners and Barcelona in the summer, although he ultimately made the decision to remain at Sociedad.

Arsenal are set to offload Mohamed Elneny which will allow them to make a move for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Egypt international is the subject of offers from Turkish sides Trabzonspor and Besiktas as the Gunners consider offers for fringe players.

The 31-year-old midfielder has made one appearance in the Premier League for the Gunners this season, as he continues to be overlooked by Mikel Arteta.

Since joining the club from Swiss side FC Basel in 2015, Elneny has made 159 appearances, scoring six goals.

Elneny out, Zubimendi in?
Arsenal are set to offload Mohamed Elneny which will allow them to make a move for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, according to the Daily Mirror.

Many believe Zubimendi will be Rodri’s long-term successor for Spain.

The Daily Express previously reported the Gunners' hopes of bringing the 24-year-old to north London have been boosted after it was reported that Barcelona will not be looking to bring him to the Nou Camp.

Mikel Arteta tried to bring the Spain international, who has a £53m release clause, to the Emirates last summer but he opted to stay with Sociedad to helped them qualify for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Elneny joined the Gunners in 2016 and had a loan spell with Besiktas in 2019/20 but has clocked only one minute in the Premier League this season.

Yeah, I heard about Arsenal's interest in Zubimendi. It's exciting news for sure. He's a talented midfielder, and with that release clause, there might be a chance for Arsenal to strike a deal.
